The bicycle-sharing phenomenon has been gathering support all over the world and has taken the world by storm. This is hugely popular in China where there are over 70 private bike-sharing companies in operation with a collective pool of 16 million cycles and over 130 million users.
However, there is a problem and that is that the supply has outpaced demand by a huge margin and illegal parking has resulted in clogged sidewalks. Millions of damaged bikes can be seen all over the cities as the municipalities were not well equipped to handle the sudden inflow of millions of shared bicycles.
A number of these bike-sharing companies have gone out of business recently and resulted in thousands of bikes abandoned on the streets. This gave rise to vandalism and abuse. It has resulted in chaos and massive bicycle graveyards which can be seen in the pictures below.
