The Grand Vividus mattress by Swedish manufacturer Hästens along with the input of artist and designer Ferris Rafauli is something that only the super-rich can actually manage to afford. The Grand Vividus was made famous by the Canadian rapper Drake.
The Architectural Digest magazine decided to feature Drake’s 50,000 square-foot mansion in Toronto this month. Among the many amenities that were shown off, the limelight was stolen by the luxurious mattress. The Grand Vividus is a bespoke, hand-made work of art that is befitting for the artist who has his worth evaluated at $150 million.
As mentioned before, it is the fruit of a collaboration between Hästens and Ferris Rafauli. The very first thing that you will notice about this mattress is the color black but then you realize that it also features golden brass highlights along with shagreen leather corners. It is hand-made, weighs in at half a ton, and will cost you $390,000. Why is it so expensive? It is because of the amount of horsehair that has been used in the manufacturing process.
But that’s not all – this particular mattress features a lot more springs thus imparting the feeling of floating when you lie down on it. It takes about 600 hours for mattress experts to create it and only 12 units are made each year. Drake’s Grand Vividus was the first unit to leave the Hästens factory but the manufacturer has already created 9 more units that have been bought in advance.
Linus Adolfsson who runs Hästens Sleep Spa and three Hästens stores in Los Angeles says, ‘In Sweden, sleeping isn’t just about sleeping, it’s about self-care. Your mattress should be the most important piece of furniture in your home. In Sweden, if your couch costs more than your mattress, people won’t understand. We have a completely different attitude to sleeping. I didn’t come from a wealthy family, but my mattress cost more than my family’s car. My parents knew it was important to give me the best sleep possible.’
