Seeing how smartphones are becoming a crucial part of everyday life and considering how different professions have different working environment, it doesn’t come as a surprise to know that Caterpillar, the company famous for construction equipment is all set to launch a new smartphone called the S50. The key features of the phone are ruggedness and durability.
The idea is to come up with a smartphone that can take good beating from the user who loves outdoors and those who need to use smartphone while working in harsh environments. Cat has promised that the smartphone is IP67 certified dust and waterproof. So what we’re looking at is a smartphone that is fully dust safe and is able to resist water to a depth of 3.3 ft. Apart from these cool features, the 4.7 inch screen can respond to wet fingers and is capable of executing wet finger tracking. The screen has been made from Gorilla Glass 3.
Apart from the durability factor, Cat is also pitching some solid specs for the market. It comes with Android 4.4 KitKat – the latest Android version – and is equipped with an MSM 8296 Quad-core 1.2 GHz processor. That being said, it comes with a 2GB RAM and an internal storage worth 8GB. The rear camera is 8 MP with the front facing camera being a VGA camera. The videos recorded by the rear camera can manage resolution up to 1080p with 30 fps. The2,630-mAh battery, gives, as per Cat, 16 hours of talk time.
The S50 comes with complete access to Google Play and with Cat’s own app store by the name of Cat Phones App Store as well. Cat has promised over 1,000 apps. Although it is being branded as Cat’s smartphone, you all should know that the device was actually manufactured by Bullitt Mobile who is working with Cat since 2012.
