Apple Vision Pro Owners Say They Regret Buying The $3,500 Headset

Early users of Apple’s Vision Pro have regretted their purchase over a year after the headset was introduced. When it came out, the mixed-reality device was $3,500 and was supposed to push forward how we used technology. Instead, many people now treat their diploma as nothing more than an expensive trinket.

The Wall Street Journal talked to several first-wave buyers, and what they said is sad. “All it does is gather dust now,” remarked Virginia real estate agent Dustin Fox. That seems like far too much for me. It usually becomes uncomfortable for my neck after only 20 to 30 minutes. The radio, according to Fox, was switched on fewer than five times at most in one year.

Tovia Goldstein felt the same irritation. When 60 minutes pass, you have to give up, as it’s frustrating and not very comfortable, she said. She stated, “This might not be for everyone, as it doesn’t feel useful unless you are very rich with nothing else to spend your money on.”

Besides, reports include information about social discomfort felt by some people. Some users received shocked looks from others while wearing their Vision Pro, so one person decided to sell theirs for just $1,900.

Although more than 180,000 units were snapped up in the launch weekend in January 2024, interest in the vehicle dropped soon after. Some made fun of the experience because the device was a little heavy, lacked appealing apps, was complex to set up, and reportedly made users get headaches and neck pain and even caused black eyes.

Apple cut its shipment forecast almost in half by May 2024, as the production process for components slowed down. In January of 2025, Apple made the decision to temporarily stop any production.

Apple isn’t giving up, workers say: two new VR headsets are being made, and the Vision Pro 2 is expected to be both lighter and more reasonably priced. Still, the original is a pricey reminder of the difference between what’s promised and what people actually need.
