All Your Favorite Vines Are Coming Back – Thanks To Elon Musk

In a surprise move that has ignited a wave of nostalgia across the internet, Elon Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter), “Grok Imagine is AI Vine!” hinting at a comeback for the beloved short-form video platform, Vine. However, the greater surprise was when Musk announced that he and his team had found the original archives of Vine videos, which were supposed to be lost forever. Musk posted, “The archives are still there.” We are trying to reopen them to the public.

To those who do not know, Vine was the first viral video platform. Introduced in 2013 and closed in 2016, it enabled its users to make looping videos that were only six seconds long. The time limit notwithstanding, creators took the limitations and made some of the most memorable and funniest things the internet had ever seen. Vine was instrumental in the rise of internet celebrities such as Jake and Logan Paul, Drew Gooden, Lele Pons, Liza Koshy, and Amanda Cerny through comedy skits and memorable quotes, as well as catchy edits.

Vine was first purchased by Twitter and was later abandoned, leaving its entire video library apparently erased into thin air with a few remnants floating about on YouTube compilations. Until now.

In the event that Musk is successful in his restoration plan, the internet might soon be flooded with the old Vine videos finding their way back to the public. Some of these videos, which are forever etched into the minds of a whole generation, might even have a new following today. And perhaps, just perhaps, they will rejuvenate the careers of some of the OG creators or create a new age of short-form content that is built on the creativity that Vine was known to foster.
