Are you ready for some exciting and unique architectural feats in 2019? We saw some mind-blowing architectural feats in 2018, however; 2019 has much more in store for us. There are a plethora of remarkable projects just around the corner. They range from skyscrapers to airport terminal shaped like a starfish. Check out our pick of the architectural feats that you should look forward to during 2019;
CopenHill – BIG
The Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) unveiled this architectural feat back in 2011. It is known as CopenHill, also known as Amager Bakke, and is a power station located in Copenhagen. It features a ‘smoke ring generator’ that will fire a steam ring every time 250kg of carbon dioxide is produced. As one of the architectural feats of 2019, it will also house a ski slope for visitors and locals to enjoy. The power station is already operational, however; the slop is undergoing tests and will most likely be ready for business in April.
Under By Snøhetta
Another one of the architectural feats for 2019 includes Europe’s first underwater restaurant by Snøhetta; Under. It was unveiled in 2017 and has quickly undergone construction. It was being built on top of a barge and was supposed to be submerged and secured to the sea at Norway’s southernmost point. Under will feature a big panoramic window that will provide the guests with a view of the seabed. The building will measure, once completed, 600 square meters.
One Thousand Museum – Zaha Hadid Architects
The late Zaha Hadid’s architectural feats are quite famous. The One Thousand Museum will come with an eye-catching glass-fiber reinforced white concrete exoskeleton. This particular design will twist while rising to the maximum height of 215 meters. This is a residential project and is being termed as a ‘six-star residence ’. It will house a total of 83 homes measuring between 427 and 919 square meters.
Vessel By Heatherwick Studio
This may seem like a cross between an M.C. Escher artwork and a big pineapple. The Vessel is currently the centerpiece of a massive development that is happening in Hudson Yards, New York City. For the uninitiated, it is the biggest real estate development in the history of the USA. The structure will cost $150 million for the sake of providing a fancy viewing point and will rise to a height of 45 meters. It will feature 54 interconnecting flight of stairs and is slated for completion in 2019.
Lakhta Center – Gorproject/RMJM
The bullet-shaped Laktha Center in St. Petersburg, Russia is definitely among the best planned architectural feats in 2019. It has also been rated as the 13th tallest building in the world while being the tallest tower in Europe. It will rise to a height of 462 meters. The construction has lasted for more than six years and involved approximately 20,000 people from 18 different countries. The building has been pre-certified LEED Gold thanks to its energy efficient design.
Beijing Daxing International Airport terminal – Zaha Hadid Architects
Another one of architectural feats by ZHA is the Beijing Daxing International Airport terminal (Beijing New Airport). It was promoted as the world’s largest terminal building when it was unveiled and continues to be! The gigantic structure has been created thanks to a collaboration with ADP Ingeniérie and resembles a huge starfish. It features a floor space of more than 7 million square feet and sports sustainable technology.
Gardenhouse – MAD Architects
The Gardenhouse by MAD Architects was to be complete in late 2018. However, the completion date has moved to 2019. It will feature a big podium that has been envisioned as an artificial mountain featuring 18 houses on top of it.
