“Bought this based on the recommendation in the “The Fire Smart Home Handbook” by Clyde Soles (also highly recommended).

I’m very pleased with this fire extinguisher. It comes empty. To fill, you unscrew the collar and lift out the hose/handle/tube piece, leaving the filling funnel in place. Add 2.5 gallons of water or until it bubbles over. (The filling pipe is designed to ensure you only add so much water, leaving an air space that will then be pressurized. Leave the funnel in the extinguisher). Screw the top part back on, and unscrew the cap on the Schrader valve. I used a bicycle floor pump to add 100lbs of pressure. The floor pump has a very accurate gauge, so it is recommended over using a filling station hose, supposedly the gauge on the extinguisher is not as precise, though mine came right to dead centre with 100lbs.

Use is easy. Pull the pin, squeeze the handle and spray. I got the 40′ distance and ~50 seconds of discharge claimed. This product is very much as advertised.

Since it was so easy to refill, I let everybody in the family have several turns practising with it and getting comfortable with the operation. Very pleased with this extinguisher” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

“Started our first fire of the season last night and the chimney caught fire, roaring sound, ashes falling into the fire from above, scary.

My wife immediately grabbed one of these extinguishers and put out the massive log fire we had going in the fireplace in about 2 minutes. Luckily the chimney fire wasn’t able to survive once the wood fire in the fireplace was put out.

We had the fire department come just to be safe. I asked them about the Fire Gone extinguisher we had used. They said they were a quick, easy to use solution and virtually no clean up versus the powder type. They recommended we get more.

Thus this order for two more.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.

This fire extinguisher has been exclusively built for Class A, B, and C fires. The unit meets the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) which is an independent facility that tests products for compliance with widely-accepted safety standards.

“We bought one of these 12 years ago. Just went to a neighbourhood fire safety training session done by local Fire Dept. This model worked great in putting out the fire, after having been stored in our kitchen for 12 years. The gauge showed full charge “in the green”, and it was accurate. The fireman directing the event was impressed. He did mention that because these are powder-based, inverting and shaking them occasionally was a good idea. We had never done that, and it still had plenty of distance and power to put out the flames. Approximately 12 to 15 seconds of powder spray with a reach of about 6-8 feet. We will be replacing the one we just used the same kind. Other reviews have done the construction, and yes compared to the industrial/professional units the fireman had, the metal on the handle is thinner. For a home unit, it’s fine.” – Amazon’s Customer Review.
