Have you ever wondered how the Olympic torch stays alight?

What’s Inside decided to find out the answer by cutting open one of the torches made for the Rio Olympics 2016. You can watch the video here:

 

 

Three different saws, and a few tripped fuses later, they managed to cut it open and revealed the concentric rings and spokes of aluminium, a snake-like tip, a telescoping, and a spring-loaded central gas line.

A gas container is fixed inside the base of the torch while the fuel is supplied to a wind-proof perforated grate via the handle.
