Mark Zuckerberg may have upgraded his wardrobe, but one lucky bidder now has the chance to own a piece of his past. A black Facebook hoodie worn frequently by the Meta CEO in 2010 is up for auction, complete with a handwritten note from Zuckerberg himself.
“This was one of my favorite old-school Facebook hoodies,” Zuckerberg wrote in the note. “I wore this all the time in the early days. It even has our original mission statement on the inside lining. Enjoy!”
The hoodie features the early Facebook mission statement: “Making the world open and connected,” along with a design on the lining that includes arrows labeled “graph,” “platform,” and “stream” with the year 2010 at the center.
This hoodie isn’t just any piece of memorabilia—it’s linked to a pivotal year in Facebook’s history. 2010 saw the release of The Social Network film and Zuckerberg being named Time’s Person of the Year. It also appears to be the same style he wore in a now-famous sweaty interview, where he nervously took off his hoodie while discussing privacy concerns with tech journalist Kara Swisher.

The hoodie made its way to the auction through Matt Thompson, an IT director at a small Texas school district. Thompson won the hoodie last year when Zuckerberg listed it on Facebook Marketplace for free in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary. Now, he’s auctioning it to raise funds for school extracurricular programs.
“This is an exciting situation,” Thompson said. “But the kids need these extracurricular activities more than they need that hoodie hanging up on the wall.”
Bidding for the hoodie started at $1,000, with the auction closing on February 27 at noon PT. Julien’s Auctions also lists other iconic tech and historical memorabilia, including a bow tie worn by Steve Jobs in 1984, items from the Titanic, and artifacts from former U.S. presidents.
Zuckerberg’s hoodie joins a growing list of his past fashion statements going under the hammer—last year, a gold-plated chain he donated to a charity auction sold for $40,500.
For those who appreciate both tech history and nostalgia, this hoodie might be the ultimate collector’s item.
