Petroleum Engineering, by definition, is the field of engineering which deals with production of hydrocarbons that can be either natural gas or crude oil. It mostly deals with exploration and processes related to extracting hydrocarbons and is a very high paying field of engineering.

Being a Petroleum Engineer

Being a Petroleum Engineer basically translates into two things; either you would be exploring or you would be part of the production team. Whichever the case maybe; you would be relying on simulation software and supercomputers (yes, petroleum industry owns quite a number of them). As a petroleum engineer you will be required to carry out evaluation of reservoirs, take charge of drilling activities, come up with and see through recovery schemes and be part of the design team dealing with surface collection and treatment facilities design.
