Do You Know The Phenomenon Of Water Hammer? Here’s How Engineers Fix It

We are so used to getting water by just turning on the tap that we don’t stop to think about what is going on in the background. We have probably seen and heard the effects of a phenomenon known as water hammer without actually knowing what it is. It occurs when the tap is shut off quickly and the water exerts pressure against the valve and in some cases damaging it.

The Pascal’s law states that pressure exerted on a liquid is exerted equally in all directions. This is because liquids are incompressible and can not absorb the pressure. You can watch the video to learn more about the water hammer phenomenon and how engineers take steps to reduce its effect and fix complications that arise as a result of it.
