Watch This New Samsung Galaxy S4 Battery Fully Charge In Under 26 Seconds

The technology conference held in Tel Aviv featured a battery that can be charged in under 30 seconds. The battery was created by an Israeli startup company called StoreDot at Microsoft’s Think Next Conference.

For the demonstration, a Samsung S4 smartphone was used, and it’s dead battery was fully charged in 26 seconds. At the moment, the battery is only a prototype and it will take about three years before it becomes commercially viable. The battery pack used in the demonstration was the size of a pack of cigarettes, so you can imagine why it would take years before it could be available in the market.

Founder of StoreDot, Dr Dorn Myersdorf, said, “We think we can integrate a battery into a smartphone within a year and have a commercially ready device in three years.” The battery is bio-organic and utilizes self-assembling nano-crystals that were discovered while researching Alzheimer’s disease in the Tel Aviv University 10 years ago.

These nano-dots are described by the company as “stable, robust spheres” with a diameter of 2.1 nanometers and are made up of peptide molecules. This new technology has the potential to impact a wide variety of industries and the team has also incorporated it into memory chips. These memory chips can write three times faster than traditional flash disks. Also the nano-dots can be developed as a replacement for cadmium in screens.

According to Dr Myersdorf, the batteries will be 30 to 40 percent more expensive to produce than traditional batteries and will be twice as expensive as the ones on today’s market. The process by which the batteries will be made is said to be relatively easy. The ability to charge one’s phone in half a minute is truly incredible. Lets hope that we see a commercial version of this new battery soon!
