Watch LinkedIn Co-Founder Reid Hoffman Interviewing His Own AI Twin

Reid Hoffman, the LinkedIn co-founder, is deeply involved in the AI revolution, showcasing his multifaceted roles as an entrepreneur, author, podcaster, venture capitalist, and Microsoft board member. Recently, he engaged in an intriguing interview, where he conversed with a virtual AI version of himself, created using a customized GPT trained on two decades of Hoffman’s content.

During this dialogue, Hoffman delved into various topics such as regulation, ethics, job implications, and the significance of digital twins in fostering human connections. Notably, he addressed the pivot at Inflection AI, a company he co-founded, following Mustafa Suleyman’s transition to Microsoft AI as CEO.

“It’s a great consumer thing,” Hoffman told his AI interviewer. “One of the things we realized when we were doing it is, Mustafa really wanted to be building the consumer thing at scale. But the business was going to take years and years to develop. Whereas the developer business — the API business — is actually where the real startup opportunity is.”

Hoffman praised Inflection AI’s focus on emotions alongside intelligence, highlighting its potential in the consumer market. Reflecting on Suleyman’s departure, Hoffman emphasized the shift towards the developer API business, identifying it as the prime startup opportunity due to its quicker development timeline. With Suleyman’s move to Microsoft, he can now explore consumer opportunities without immediate business model constraints.

Sean White, appointed CEO of Inflection AI, previously associated with Mozilla, will navigate the startup’s new business trajectory. Hoffman expressed awe at the realization of unforeseen potential within the company’s strategic realignment, likening it to discovering unexpected magic.

In summary, Hoffman’s dialogue with his AI counterpart provided insights into his views on AI, business dynamics, and the evolving landscape of startups in the digital age, particularly highlighting the strategic shifts within Inflection AI prompted by Suleyman’s transition.
