Watch A LEGO Technic Reach 60,000 RPM In A Lab

Technology has progressed so much that it has found novel ways to make things functional and interesting. There are new ways being tested to see how things work. Recently, researchers have set up mechanisms for making a machine from simple toys.

The authors of this experiment constructed a system of rotating gears that is capable of achieving 60,000 RPM, which equals 1000 revolutions per second. All of this was made possible with the help of regular Lego Technic components, along with some additional lubrication to avoid excessive mechanical wear.

At this velocity, it makes sense to expect the entire plastic construction to break apart due to excessive vibrations and various overloads. In reality, the setup and mechanism worked better than what was expected.

The rest can be seen through this video.
