The US Air Force has made a show of force by deploying at least 20 missiles that can be used for zapping the electronics of North Korea or Iran using high-power microwaves thus bringing their military capabilities to zero without any casualty. The missiles are known as Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project or CHAMP missiles in short.
The CHAMP missiles were created by Boeing’s Phantom Works for the US Air Force Research Laboratory and were tested successfully back in 2012. However, they have not come into operation up until now. The CHAMP missiles are fitted into an air-launched cruise missile and then delivered by B-52 bombers.
The CHAMP missiles have a range of 700 miles and can make their way into the enemy airspace at low altitude and generate sharp pules of high power microwave energy (HPM energy) that are capable of destroying computer chips and any electronic chips that have been targeted by the missiles. Mary Lou Robinson, the chief of the High Power Microwave Division of the Air Force Research Lab at Kirtland Air Force Base, has given confirmation that the CHAMP missiles are operational and awaiting order to eliminate any target.
The CHAMP missile made its way over a two-story building on the Utah Test and Firing Range. The electromagnetic pulse cannon took out the complete electronic systems, including the video cameras that had been set up for filming the test without causing damage to anything else. Boeing’s CHAMP Program Manager Keith Colman said, ‘We hit every target we wanted to. Today we made science fiction into science fact.’
What makes CHAMP missiles so amazing is that its microwave beam can even penetrate bunkers with facilities hidden inside without causing damage to any of the humans present inside. Even if the bunker is hidden inside a mountain, the HPM can cause damage via the connection to the power cables, communication lines, and antennas. The CHAMP missiles can also disable fighter planes, tanks, missile systems, and ships.
CHAMP missiles are different from an EMP attack because the CHAMP missile carries out a targeted attack, unlike an EMP blast that would take out everything in its range thus causing casualties. What do you think of the CHAMP missiles?
