Ukrainian Mother Digs 35 Foot Into The Ground To Bust Son Out Of Prison

A 51-year-old mother who’s son was in prison got arrested in an attempt to set her son free. She had been digging into the ground and was 35 feet deep, making a tunnel towards the prison facility. She had a strong urge to help her son escape and live the rest of their lives somewhere far.

The woman belongs to the Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv. She rented a house near the prison where her son was serving a life sentence for murder. Every night, she drove a silent electric scooter to an empty field near the Zaporizhia maximum security prison and used hand run tools to dig a tunnel towards the prison. She worked only during the night, using an improvised trolley to take the dirt out of the narrow tunnel. She had been working for at least three weeks and had almost reached the prison walls when she was discovered and arrested.

The woman stayed inside the rented house during the day and only came out at night to avoid getting noticed. This worked, as when shown pictures of the woman following her arrest, none of the neighbors recognized her.

According to media, the woman had managed to single-handedly dig a 35-foot-long tunnel at a depth of about 10 feet, on which everyone was pretty shocked. She reportedly carried the dirt near an abandoned garage, close to where the dig site was located. During the three weeks of work, she managed to move three tons of soil. Her plan was foolproof, as it remains unclear how she was caught or suspected first. The woman commits to her crime when police found some digging tools inside the rented house. The Ukrainian woman in her defense pledged that she was only trying to break out her son and didn’t intend any other harm.

She has been taken into custody and now risks spending time behind bars. Despite technically committing a crime, the daring woman’s actions have earned her praises from the Ukrainian public.
