UAE Woman Goes To Jail For Looking At Husband’s Phone Without Permission

Looks like the days of sneaking looks at our Spouses’ phones are over.

A court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced a woman to three months in jail after her husband sued her in court for looking through his phone without asking his permission.

The husband claimed that his wife used to look through his phone and copy all data and pictures to her own phone sneakily while he was not in the room and then go through it at them at a later date. He also said that his wife would share that information with her siblings.

The court in Ras Al Khaimah found his wife guilty even though she defended herself by saying that her husband had himself given her the password to his phone and permission to look through it because she had found him chatting with another woman.

The UAE has strict cybercrime laws, especially when it comes to protecting the privacy of individuals online. The court decision triggered a debate on twitter with some siding with the wife and some siding with the husband. Right or wrong, the decision did set a precedent regarding respect for privacy.
