Twitter has been sued for failing to pay the rent for its San Francisco office space, according to Bloomberg.
According to its landlord, Columbia Property Trust, which filed the lawsuit last Thursday, the company owes roughly $136,260 in unpaid rent.
The failure of Twitter to pay rent was first reported last month, nearly a month and a half after Elon Musk purchased the company for $44 billion after a tumultuous legal battle.
According to two people familiar with the situation, Musk has been attempting to renegotiate the terms of the lease deal amid major layoffs and downsizing.
Several media reports have claimed Twitter has not paid the rent for its headquarters, or any of its other global offices, in weeks.
Twitter closed its Seattle operations on Friday, cutting janitorial and security services, The Times reported.
Meanwhile, staff from the company’s headquarters in New York and San Francisco were laid off. According to The Times, Musk has reduced the company’s office space at the latter from four to two floors.
This is not Twitter’s first time being sued. Previously, the company was sued for $197,725 in charter flights Musk took during his first week at the company. During the same time frame, Musk is said to have brought “more than a half-dozen” lawyers from SpaceX to Twitter’s legal team.
