The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is planned to be the most futuristic so far, and the most highlighted part of the event will be the Toyota flying car. The flying car is meant to transition from driving on the road to flying in the skies and light the Olympic torch.
Knowing that the project is backed by Toyota, and a team of very skilled Toyota employees are working on it, we expect only the best from it. So far, this has not been the case. The early prototype of the car went on its first ride in a school field in Japan, and well, it did manage to rise to a few feet before crashing.
The project is in partnership with Cativator Resource Management, and Toyota has already invested about $400,000 in the project. It is scheduled to be completed and fly with a pilot by 2019, well ahead of Tokyo Olympics. Whether that happens or not, we will have to wait and see.
