3 Tons Of Gold And Platinum Bars Fall From A Plane On The Runway During Takeoff

The Nimbus Airlines AN-12 cargo plane was carrying ten tons worth of gold, platinum, and diamonds which belonged to a Canadian mining company, Kinross Gold. The estimated worth of the precious cargo was $378 million dollars. While taking off from the Yakutsk Airport on March 15, the cargo hatch of the plane opened and almost 200 gold and platinum bars fell down from the plane. A total of 3.4 tons of bars were seen falling from the plane.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, the cargo was not secured properly by the ground crew at the airport. Luckily, neither anyone was injured nor structural damage was recorded. The runway was sealed off by the Police to recover the fallen cargo. As per the Police, almost all of the fallen treasure has been recovered successfully.
