This New Type Of Boat Uses ‘Spider Legs’ To Slice Through Waves

Have you ever thought of a boat that could float with spider legs? Probably not. But you will be amazed to know that this concept is not new and was first introduced sixteen years ago. This incredible advancement originated from “California’s Marine Advanced Robotics”, which has developed boats that have the ability to change their shape according to their environment. The project was named “Wave-Adaptive Modular Vessel (WAM-V)” and, as the name suggests, it uses special techniques and robotic technology to adapt itself to the surrounding conditions of a sea cruise. The substituents are then designated as “Proteus”.

The video below shows its magnanimous functional capabilities:

Adhering to this technology, after years of development and modifications, California’s Marine Advanced Robotics has finally made an incredible discovery by introducing three smaller versions of WAM-V, categorized as WAM-V 8 SV, WAM-V 16 SV, and WAM-22 SV. All of these models are transistorized with specific “suspension legs” designed primarily for such kinds of models so that they can travel in a smooth fashion no matter how many geomorphological conflicts there are in the ocean.

This California-based company stated on its website, “The Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel, or WAM-V® is an innovative class of watercraft using unique suspension technology to radically improve seagoing capabilities.” The articulating system uses springs, shocks, and ball joints to minimize structural loading. The result is an ultra-light, modular vessel that can perform in sea conditions where an ordinary boat of similar size could no longer operate. “The incredibly shallow draft and arches contribute to the gantry crane-like functionality”.

On the other hand, the recently developed three models have some features that are different from each other. The first one, i.e., WAM-V 8 SV, is a one-of-its-kind and is so small that you take it in your baggage while traveling on a flight. It can also be stacked on the back of a truck and can be released while reaching the seashore. This demonstrates its portable nature. The second model, i.e., WAM-V16 SV, can be carried on the boat as well and is designed in accordance with the conditions prevailing in coastal areas. Last but not least, the WAM-22 SV model is based on a “multi-day endurance system” and is manufactured for carrying out functions in multiple sea environments like inshore, nearshore, or actually in the sea.

They can easily be utilized for defense purposes with certain modifications in hand. However, they can also be channeled to carry out autonomous operations by controlling them from the ground via deploying advanced and modern automation. Thus, they are highly portable and comfortable to maneuver.
