Last year, the world saw the release of the YotaPhone – a Russian phone with an extra e-ink display on its back, that would give you twice the battery life. Sadly though, the first model was not as refined as the smartphones of the international market. The phone was lagging in terms of specs and the e-ink display was not fully functional either.
But the new YotaPhone 2 is Yota Device’s way of saying that they are not giving up on their smartphone. The phone comes with a 5-inch, 1080p display and features a full touch-enabled e-ink display this time. The e-ink display lets you customize your phone without having to add a bulky case and also gives you important updates that you desire. The e-ink display is a 4.7-inch, 540×960 pixel screen with more capabilities than it’s predecessor.
The e-ink display looks just like ink on paper and is a lot sharper than you would expect. The phone will run Android 4.4 KitKat and there will even be some modified apps meant specifically for the rear display. The phone’s e-ink display will always remain on and display the wallpaper, notifications, weather and other app data which will supposedly save battery life. The phone will also support 4G connectivity.
The YotaPhone 2 will have a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB RAM along with 32 GB of built-in memory. The phone features and 8 megapixel camera at the back with LED flash and a 2 megapixel secondary camera up front.
The phone is expected to be released at the end of this year and Yota Devices claims that they will give it a price tag that will give their phone an edge in the market. The Russian company even hopes to reach out to American markets by announcing that the phone will be available in the United States. The YotaPhone 2 is certainly a device with a lot of potential and can set a new trend with it’s unique e-ink display.
