This New Graphics Card By AMD Is Purposefully Bad At Crypto Mining

Graphic cards have been in demand for as long as we remember. AMD has now come up with a graphic card that would cost around $199, and that too in a time when cards are in limited supply. The card has been touted as gamer-oriented, but reviewers say that this card might not even be able to do good at gaming.

The Radeon RX 5500 was showcased by hardware giant AMD at this year’s CES. Laura Smith, the CVP of Radeon Graphics, took the time to explain this graphic card to tech journalists.

“We have really optimized this one to be gaming-first at that target market,” Smith said in the interview.

“And you can see that with the way that we configured the part. That’s a really nice frame buffer size for the majority of AAA games, but it’s not particularly attractive if you’re doing blockchain-type activities or mining activities.”

The ban on China’s inland mining will help in the production and supply of graphic cards, which have been in limited supply off late.

This week, PC Gamer, in their headlines, declared AMD’s new graphics card as “worse on paper than AMD’s $199 GPU from six years ago.” One thing that is pertinent to mention here is that crypto is hazardous to the environment. It produces so much heat and energy that it has converted a lake into a hot tub. But having said that, if gamers can get a good gaming card, that is good news.

AMD has already won a prize for another card in the CES award. So, it would be right to assume that AMD provides a set of options for users to choose from; users will have a choice to select from them, providing them value for their money, hopefully!
