This New Flip Phone Concept By Samsung Lets You Turn The Screen Inside Out

Samsung has showcased an innovative foldable screen technology at CES 2024, introducing the ‘Flex In & Out’ display. This breakthrough allows a clamshell-style foldable smartphone not only to open and close like a traditional flip phone but also to bend in both directions.

At CES 2024, Samsung unveiled its latest concept device featuring the ‘Flex In & Out’ foldable screen, reminiscent of the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s form factor. Unlike its predecessor with an external display, this smartphone stands out by folding both forwards and backward, offering a 360-degree folding display. Even when folded, users can interact with content on the screen, showcasing the versatility of the technology.

Samsung emphasizes the durability of the foldable device, subjecting its panels to rigorous testing. The company conducted durability tests involving extreme temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius, exposure to sand, immersion in water, and even bouncing basketballs on the foldable panels. These tests aim to ensure the robustness of the ‘Flex In & Out’ display under various conditions.

Although Samsung has not disclosed plans to integrate the new foldable screen technology into a future Galaxy Z Flip smartphone, the potential benefits are noteworthy. A folding phone with a single display could eliminate the need for configuring a separate outer display, providing a seamless user experience. Furthermore, this innovation may open up possibilities for using more applications even when the device is folded shut.

Overall, Samsung’s introduction of the ‘Flex In & Out’ foldable screen showcases the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone design. The durability testing underscores Samsung’s dedication to ensuring the reliability of this groundbreaking technology, although specific integration plans for future devices are yet to be disclosed.
