I bet you haven’t seen a submarine like this before. A UAE-based start-up, Highland Systems, has finally built an incredibly amazing submarine that is the exact opposite of conventional submarines in terms of its design parameters. Christened as the “Kronos Submarine”, this unusual marvel rocks like a futuristic spacecraft. It is a dual-powered submarine integrated with both a diesel generator and an electric engine as well. The combination of both of these power sources can give it an operational time of about 54 hours. Unquestionably, this novel technology is an incredible scientific feat of its own.
Coupled with this, the submarine has the capacity to contain ten passengers and one crew member on board. Talking about its specs, the Kronos is about 30 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 6.85 feet tall. In addition to this, the submarine weighs just 22,000 pounds (10,000 kg) and can sustain around 6,600 pounds of weight when cruising on the water, as per the reports of the company. It should be noted that this UAE-based start-up has stimulated the concept design of the Kronos submarine from DARPA’s Mantra Project, which was reported to be proceeding towards the next phase of its development last year.
On that count, this unusual marvel can be built entirely for commercial operations or made wholly for combat and rescue operations. Moreover, as per the company, this new and adaptive design has given this submarine an advantage in terms of fuel efficiency. Now, it can consume less fuel and cruise at high speeds. It has been noted that the maximum top speed of the submarine can be achieved by traveling just 50 miles (80 km) an hour on the water. On the other hand, the same speed can be achieved by covering a distance of 31 miles (50 km) when it is cruising underwater.
You can clearly see in the pictures how beautifully designed its interior is and has also been featured by an adaptive lighting system as well. The interiors are also air-conditioned and give a spacious look, which can easily make room for the accommodation of passengers. For military purposes, six mini-torpedoes have been installed on one side of a crew member. Seeing all these exciting features, we just can’t wait till it becomes operative and smashes all the previous records.
