Hyundai’s new coffee delivery robot, the DAL-e Delivery, is set to revolutionize office mailroom jobs by autonomously distributing packages and even fetching coffee. Unlike its humanoid predecessor, this robot is built on Hyundai’s Plug & Drive platform, offering intelligent steering, braking, in-wheel electric drive, and suspension hardware.
The DAL-e Delivery can safely transport up to 16 cups of coffee or packages weighing up to 10 kg. It navigates complex environments using onboard sensors, avoiding obstacles and calculating optimal routes in real-time. Despite slightly slower speeds than its predecessor, the new bot maintains efficiency and safety.
One of its standout features is the ability to call for an elevator, check for occupants using its camera and AI, and ride to the desired floor without human intervention. Upon arrival, the robot’s facial recognition technology ensures accurate delivery to the intended recipient, without the need for passwords or keycodes. The cargo doors automatically open, revealing the items inside, while a storage tray makes retrieval easy.
The design of the DAL-e Delivery is sleek and modern, with a square column shape and rounded corners. The animated circular “eyes” have been replaced by a blocky matrix, and a 11.6-inch tablet-shaped display provides service status information and engaging animations.
This robot is tailored for indoor food/beverage and parcel delivery services, and will debut at IGIS Asset Management’s Factorial Seongsu smart office in Seoul, South Korea. It represents Hyundai and Kia’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in robotics, offering a glimpse into the future of office automation.
