Over the past week, Apple has started recalling the 15″ models of it’s top-of-the-line MacBook Pro. In the announcement made by Apple, it was stated that many 15″ MacBook Pros manufactured between September 2015 and 2017 could be facing a battery issue.
Apple asked customers who bought the laptop during this timeframe to stop using it immediately and get the battery replaced as soon as possible. The battery replacement will be offered for free as part of the recall program initiated by Apple. This is due to the fact that a limited number of MacBook Pro 15″ units were sold with a battery flaw that may cause them to “overheat and pose a safety risk”.
To manage this issue, Apple has set up a recall site where you can cross-check the serial number of your MacBook and check whether it is eligible for the recall program. According to Apple, the service should take about 1 to 2 weeks. The serial number can be found through the “About this Mac” option from the Apple menu at the top left of your MacBook screen. The 15 inch model of the MacBook Pro is the most premium MacBook currently sold by Apple and can cost more than $2400.
This is not the first time that Apple has faced an issue with its laptops this year. Earlier, Apple announced that some of its newer laptops had problematic keyboards and offered free replacements to customers.
Will the MacBook Pro suffer the same fate as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which also had a battery defect? We don’t think so. So far, there haven’t been any reports of significant damage or injuries caused by the defect and Apple seems to be managing it well. “Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge,” says Apple.
