With more focus on conscious manufacturing and construction, people are inclining towards green options to incorporate in their operations. It includes constructing buildings with green systems installed in them and sometimes even the material used for the purpose is also environment friendly. One such example is the new carbon concrete building that is being constructed at present.
The German architecture firm, Henn has worked in collaboration with the researchers from the Technical University of Dresden to make a carbon concrete building. It is reported in Dezeen. The building is going to be the first of its kind in the world. The project has attracted a buzz from all over the world.
This project is in compliance with the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research-funded research project that aims to create construction innovations called “C³ – Carbon Concrete Composite”. This building the called The Cube now and is being made at TU Dresden University campus. Its carbon concrete material is speculated to be almost four times as strong as the conventional concrete material while being four times as lighter than that due to reduced number of sections.
This will lessen the carbon emissions of construction by almost 50 percent. A similar project is under process in the UK where the constructors will use graphite instead of steel rods to make the concrete stronger. This innovative method will also lessen the carbon emissions by almost 50 percent. It is called a 3D printing construction method.
This German project has created new avenues for conscious architecture. A method called pyrolysis will be used to thermally decompose the carbon crystals. These decomposed crystals will be then used to make carbon fiber yarn which will make the concrete strong. The carbon fiber does not rust like the steel rods. This means that the structure will also last longer than conventional concrete structures.
