Girard Henderson, a wealthy business man back in the 1970s during the Cold War, wanted to build a house for himself. He was afraid of a nuclear war between USA and Russia and therefore, wanted to protect his family. He did that by building a second house that was worth 15,200 sq. ft. of area and hid it.
