This Is The World’s Fastest EV Charger – And It Can Add 100 Km Of Range In Just 3 Minutes

Swiss tech giant ABB has revealed the world’s fastest electric vehicle charger, capable of supplying 100 km (62 miles) of range in just a couple of minutes.

ABB’S Terra 360, the world’s fastest EV charger, is designed for refuelling stations, urban charging stations, retail parking, and commercial electric vehicle fleets. It has configurable LED illumination strips and a 27-inch LCD that takes the user through the charging cycle and displays their battery status, counting down the minutes until the charging is complete.

The company says the new Terra 360 modular charger can charge up to four vehicles simultaneously. This implies that drivers don’t have to wait if someone else is already charging at the refill station; instead, they can simply pull up to another plug.

With a peak power of 360 kW, it can fully charge an electric car within 15 minutes and delivers 100km of range in less than 3 minutes.

With four ports and five-meter (16-foot) cables, the Terra 360 resembles a regular gasoline pump, allowing charging of up to four vehicles in one go, but at a slower 90 kW. Furthermore, the EV charger is also wheelchair accessible and has an efficient cable management system that makes it easier for drivers to connect in.

According to Theodor Swedjemark, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at ABB, road transport contributes to about a fifth of worldwide carbon emissions; thus, e-mobility is vital in meeting the global climate goals.

“With governments around the world writing public policy that favours electric vehicles and charging networks to combat climate change, the demand for EV charging infrastructure, especially charging stations that are fast, convenient and easy to operate is higher than ever,” said Frank Muehlon, President of ABB’s E-mobility Division. “The Terra 360, with charging options that fit a variety of needs, is the key to fulfilling that demand and accelerating e-mobility adoption globally.”

The chargers will be available in Europe and the United States by the end of the year, with Latin America and the Asia Pacific regions following in 2022.
