This Electric Moto Costs Less Than An iPhone And Is On Amazon

In an age where the EV market is flooding with contenders, standing out demands bold thinking and clever strategy. That’s exactly what Indian startup Oben Electric has done by launching its first electric motorcycle, the Rorr EZ, on none other than Amazon India. Yes, you read that right.

“You’ve got to have a trick or two up your sleeve,” goes the saying and Oben Electric certainly does. Launching an electric motorcycle via Amazon, a platform with over 150 million users in India, is not only disruptive but incredibly smart in a market where visibility is everything.

And while the e-commerce angle grabs headlines, the Rorr EZ’s specs and design are what make it a serious contender in the commuter EV space.

The Rorr EZ is available in three variants, each powered by LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery packs of 2.6 kWh, 3.4 kWh, and 4.4 kWh, delivering claimed ranges of 110 km, 140 km, and 175 km, respectively. Charging to 80% takes just 45 minutes.

For context, the top model costs INR 129,999 (about US$1,550) notably cheaper than the iPhone 16 Pro Max in India. An electric motorcycle for less than a premium smartphone? That alone is enough to make heads turn.

Unlike many EV startups that piece together bikes using off-the-shelf components, Oben took the road less traveled. They developed in-house key components like the motor, charger, battery, and control units. Their LFP batteries offer twice the lifespan of standard lithium-ion units and better thermal stability, a critical factor in India’s often scorching climate.

The Rorr EZ is powered by a 5.9-kW motor that delivers 52 Nm of torque, allowing it to reach a top speed of 59 mph (95 km/h). It accelerates from 0 to 40 km/h in just 3.3 seconds not exactly superbike territory, but more than sufficient for navigating the daily demands of urban commuting.

On the tech front, Oben has packed the Rorr EZ with a range of practical features. Riders can switch between three drive modes Eco for energy efficiency, City for balanced performance, and Havoc for maximum power. A color LED display provides essential ride data in a sleek, easy-to-read format.

Safety and connectivity have also been thoughtfully integrated. The bike includes advanced features like geofencing, a Driver Alert System (DAS), Unified Braking Assistance (UBA), and built-in anti-theft protection. To further instill buyer confidence, Oben offers warranty coverage of up to five years or 75,000 kilometers an impressive offering for a first-time manufacturer.

Design-wise, the bike blends modern and neo-retro styling, available in four striking colors: Electro Amber, Surge Cyan, Lumina Green, and Photon White. It sports a practical build with telescopic front forks, a rear mono-shock, 200 mm ground clearance, and 230 mm water-wading ability making it ideal for India’s varied roads and weather.

Though currently exclusive to India, Oben is scaling fast. It’s not just an online-only operation, the company plans to establish a physical presence in over 50 cities with 150 showrooms by the end of this fiscal year. That kind of growth signals real ambition.

And while a Western rollout isn’t on the radar just yet, the potential is clear.
