People can carry a coin in their pocket but not a knife. Fulcrum Knives in San Francisco took inspiration from coins and came up with a compact everyday carry option. It can be slipped easily into a jeans pocket and can be flicked into action single-handedly if needed. The coin-shaped knife is named The Eclipse knife. It might be small, but it is made up of 24 individual parts.
The Wharncliffe-style blade is made from heat-treated stainless steel. It has a pointy tip for piercing, a flat edge for chopping and a shallow chisel grind for smooth slicing. There are simple button release and locking mechanism in the coin knife. The 0.7-inch blade can be opened with one hand, and it stays secure in its place. The moving parts pivot on the phosphor bronze washers which is said to offer greater longevity. The grip is made up of a strong combination of fiberglass and epoxy.

The knife is 2.9-in long with deployed and can be folded back into the body through another press of the button. When the tool is closed, it looks like a pizza cutter and has a diameter of 1.8-in which is 7-mm more than a US dollar coin. Fulcrum Knives have raised US$20,000 for production of the Eclipse on Kickstarter. If everything goes as per plan, the knife will be shipped in October at an early pledge of $39.
