This Chinese EV Shifts From An SUV To A Pickup For Just $28,000

Changan Auto, China’s oldest automaker, has launched a revolutionary electric vehicle (EV), the Nevo E07, which transitions from an SUV to a pickup truck at the push of a button. Priced at around $28,000 (199,900 yuan), this innovative EV brings a real-life “transformer” to the market.

With a retractable, electric-powered trunk cover, the Nevo E07 merges the practicality of an SUV with the utility of a pickup. When the cover is closed, it resembles a sleek SUV. Once opened, it reveals a spacious truck bed capable of hauling larger items like bikes and camping gear. Measuring 5,054 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,640 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,120 mm, the E07 offers a sizable and versatile vehicle, slightly shorter but with a longer wheelbase than Tesla’s Model X.

The E07’s interior focuses on modern technology, featuring a 15.4-inch infotainment display and a 28.86-inch head-up display. While it only seats two rows of passengers due to its large trunk, it makes up for it in driving performance and convenience. Available in both EV and extended-range versions, the E07’s base “Air” model comes with a 338 hp (252 kW) rear electric motor. For those seeking more power, the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model provides up to 590 hp (440 kW), thanks to an added front e-motor.

Battery options include 70 kWh and 90 kWh, offering a driving range between 342 miles (551 km) and 435 miles (701 km) on the CLTC cycle. Changan claims the E07 is the first mass-produced transformer SUV, differentiating it from concept models like Audi’s Activesphere or Tesla’s Cybertruck.
