The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has finally shortlisted six buildings for the RIBA International Prize which is a global architecture award for “the most significant and inspirational building in the world.” These six were shortlisted from 30 buildings across five continents, and the Grand Jury of the prize will be announced on November 24, 2016

1) Arquipelago Contemporary Arts Centre

This 1890s sweet potato distillery has been turned into the Arquipelago Contemporary Arts Centre located in The Azores while keeping its eye-catching black Basalt exterior intact.

2) Heydar Aliyev Centre

This is another one of Zaha Hadid’s masterpieces, which was built to symbolise Azerbaijan’s independence from the Soviet clutches and the first president, Heyday Aliyev. This building is located in the capital Baku and has won 2014 Design of the Year Award.

 

3) Museo Jumex

Museo Jumex was created by David Chipperfield Architects and is a home to the world’s largest private collection of Latin American contemporary art located in Mexico City.

4) Stormen Concert Hall, Theatre and Public Library

The Storment Concert Hall is located in the Norwegian town of Bodø and is compared with the New York’s Carnegie Hall for its acoustics symphonic music. It is also popular due to its changing colours in the presence of Artic sunlight, and the walls comprising of engineered stone with 70% marble aggregate.

5) The Ring of Remembrance

Agence d’architecture Philippe Prost (AAPP)’s “Ring of Remembrance” is a war memorial located in Northern France and is engraved with the names of the soldiers who died during the World War I.

6) UTEC – Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología

This is Peru’s Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) new campus which symbolises the traditional architecture of their historical heritage site Machu Picchu while heralding a bold and bright future for Peru.
