The Jeddah Economic Company Tower (JEC Tower) stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s architectural ambition, rapidly taking shape in Jeddah. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, the architects behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the skyscraper is set to break records by soaring over 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) into the sky. Project leader Saudi Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud has officially confirmed the tower’s unprecedented height while hinting at the possibility of even greater elevations.
Previously known as Kingdom Tower, the JEC Tower experienced construction delays but has now regained momentum. Construction teams are currently pouring concrete at an impressive rate, completing one floor every four days as they progress toward the 64th floor. Engineers are developing advanced concrete-pumping technology to reach 2,624 feet (800 meters), with plans to achieve the full height of 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Upon completion, the tower will feature 157 floors, 59 elevators, the world’s highest observation deck, a luxury hotel, high-end residences, and extensive office spaces.

This iconic skyscraper marks the beginning of a larger wave of construction projects. The JEC Tower serves as the cornerstone of an expansive master plan to transform the area into a modern urban hub featuring hospitals, schools, universities, residential buildings, and additional skyscrapers. The development is expected to accommodate 100,000 residents while aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030—a program aimed at diversifying the nation’s economy beyond oil.
The JEC Tower is scheduled for completion in 2028 as Saudi Arabia continues to reshape its urban landscape. Through this project and others, including The Line and Mukaab, the kingdom is solidifying its status as a global leader in architecture, innovation, and sustainable development.
