The number of new Tesla vehicle registrations in Sweden dropped by 80.7% during April 2025 due to public opposition against CEO Elon Musk’s political activities. The April data from Mobility Sweden shows Tesla registered only 203 vehicles when last year they reached 1,052 registrations. Tesla stands as one of Sweden’s least successful automobile manufacturers since the national auto market expanded by 11% through 24,292 new passenger vehicle registrations.
The growing popularity of Polestar’s 535 new registrations demonstrated Tesla’s decreasing market share in the European region. The European markets have shown a decrease in Tesla vehicle sales, while protests and vandalism incidents against Tesla properties have been documented throughout the region.

The falling numbers stem from the controversial political stance of Musk. The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) directorship combined with his AfD party support has drawn heavy criticism from the public. Investors worry about Musk’s split attention after Tesla’s stock value decreased.
The board chair, Robyn Denholm, officially denied “absolutely false” reports about considering Musk’s removal from leadership. Musk announced his intention to leave public service positions to dedicate more time to his business operations, including SpaceX and his ownership of X.
The growing dominance of Chinese EV manufacturers and Tesla’s outdated product line create mounting challenges for the company. Shareholders and consumers need to know if Musk will successfully steer Tesla out of its financial decline while continuing to pursue political involvement.
The renewed focus from Musk will help Tesla recover its path, but the brand faces obstacles from ongoing controversies.
