In a recent episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage,” the previously late-night host hit the ground running at Pomona Raceway in California with the all-new, tech-savvy, and extremely in demand Tesla’s latest Model S; which is now being dubbed as the “Plaid.” Already an urban craze, Tesla has once again proved why it is a victor in the cutthroat, ever-developing automobile industry.
To capture the viewers’ interest, Leno drove the “Plaid” for over a quarter a mile in just under 10 seconds or, to be more precise, in 9.247 seconds. Yes, you read that right, 9.247 seconds! Clocking in at 152.09 mph, this display was off the charts, and the numbers were confirmed by National Hot Rod Association as reported by Clean Technica.
Tesla’s chief designer Franz von Holzhausen was present and cheered on Leno as he showed the world what a Tesla could achieve, like a proud father from the sidelines.
Without a doubt, achieving these numbers is a huge achievement for Elon Musk’s Tesla. “It was a winner,” Leno told CNBC. “It is now the fastest production car you can buy. It’s faster than any Ferrari, faster than any $3.5 million Bugatti.”
Taking Off
In addition to the outstanding numbers achieved by the Tesla on the track, what was worth noticing was that it was super-quiet, just like a Cheetah would do in the wilderness. “When I stepped on the accelerator, took off, and I came back down after going 152, the birds were still there,” the car enthusiast told CNBC. Of course, he was referring to the birds nesting on a nearby Christmas tree. The loud engine noise of other supercars would have scared them off, without a doubt!
“I’m a huge fan of American technology, especially products that are developed here in America using locally sourced stuff,” he added. “And that’s why I love this car.”
Leno also added that $130,000, the price of the Plaid, may sound excessive but is nothing compared to hypercars whose price tags are absolutely bonkers! “From the minute you step on the accelerator, boom, you’re gone,” he said.
