Tesla Drivers Sue Elon Musk for Turning Their Cars Into “Extreme” Right-Wing Symbols

A group of Tesla owners in France is suing Elon Musk’s car company, claiming it has turned their once environmentally friendly vehicles into divisive right-wing symbols. According to a report by France 24, the plaintiffs are seeking to terminate their lease contracts and be reimbursed for legal fees due to the “moral damage” caused by Musk’s political actions.

“Because of Elon Musk’s actions, vehicles bearing the Tesla brand have become powerful political symbols and now appear to be veritable extreme-right ‘totems,’” said GKA, the law firm representing the plaintiffs. “This is deeply upsetting to those who purchased Teslas solely for their innovative and ecological appeal.”

The lawsuit comes amid mounting backlash against Musk’s behavior, including his Nazi-style salute at a political event and his alignment with far-right European political figures. Musk has also appeared via video link at far-right rallies in Germany and Italy—actions that have alienated many customers and contributed to a significant drop in global sales.

Tesla’s European market has been hit particularly hard, with new vehicle registrations plunging by 53 percent last month. Many owners, now embarrassed to be associated with the brand, are struggling to resell their vehicles as their market value continues to plummet. Some have resorted to placing bumper stickers on their cars reading, “I bought this before Elon went crazy.”

The plaintiffs argue that their ability to enjoy their Teslas has been seriously compromised. “This is an unexpected and unacceptable situation for French Tesla owners,” said their attorney, Patrick Klugman. “Mr. Musk has an obligation to ensure buyers can peacefully enjoy the property they’ve purchased.”

The case underscores the broader fallout from Musk’s increasingly polarizing persona, suggesting that for many, owning a Tesla is no longer just about driving electric—but about navigating unwanted political associations.
