Are you also one of those people who spend almost half of their day designing unnecessary things? We understand that not every product has to prove its utility. Don’t consider your designs useless, because now, the world will see the extent of your imagination. The Stupid Hackathon is an event where you can showcase your creative products!

This Hackathon is a one-day event where participants conceptualize and create projects that have no value whatsoever. Their tagline reads,

“Stupid shit no one needs and terrible ideas.”

Sam Lavigne and Amelia Winger-Bearskin have been organizing the event for the past three years. The activity satirizes the first-world innovation which ensures that the available funding gets poured into gimmicks, like smart cups that tell you how much water to drink.

The purpose of the event is to create things that have no purpose. Get as much creative as you can. You may code like crazy or even, build some hardware; just don’t let your product have a purpose and you would be the winner.

Some amazingly useless things were featured in last year’s hackathon. For instance, this 3Cheese printer uses Cheez-whiz as ink to 3Dprint your designs.

This nonAd blocker is one of the featured products of last year. It is a chrome extension that blocks everything, except for ads.

This one may be useful if you are one of those who cannot swallow food without telling the world. The instrument, ‘Tweet Your Food,’ tweets every time you take a bite out of food.

Amelia’s project, at the last hackathon, was a Drone Dracula. It is a drone with a claw to facilitate child delivery. Yes! That did horrify everyone.

The organizers believe that are just stripping pretense of the regular hackathons which feature useless stuff anyway. They are using technology to criticize the tech culture that supports dumb and pointless projects. The co-organizer Lavigne asks,

“Is a need being filled or is the need manufactured and then continually reinforced?”.

You need absolutely no skills to attend the event. It is free and open to all. The only thing which you require is a terrible idea. You do need to register beforehand, though.

You can support the project here at Kickstarter. The event is scheduled for the 25th of February, 2017 and has already exceeded its pledge. Keep your eyes open for the upcoming registrations as they are expected to start soon.
