Space 10, in collaboration with Mads-Ulrik Husum and Sine Lindholm, the Danish architects, has developed an ingenious plan to bring agriculture to the city streets. The picturesque dome is an innovative design that will bring farming and the love of nature to the city streets.
‘The Growroom’ offers a solution to the skyrocketing food demands and unsustainable factory farming practices. Via The Growroom, Space 10 wants to:
“spark conversations about how we can bring nature back into our cities, grow our own food and tackle the rapidly increasing demand for significantly more food in the future.”
The design of The Growroom was first unveiled at the Copenhagen’s Chart Art Fair where the most innovative and futuristic designs from the Nordic region are exhibited.
The Growroom is lined with layers of vegetables, herbs, and other edible plants. A cozy central area allows the visitors to relax or take a nap. The beautiful concept explores the means of providing healthy and fresh produce to the urban natives.
As Space 10 puts it, The Growroom explores the idea of:
“Food that tastes better, is healthier for us, more nutritional and doesn’t put massive pressure on our dwindling supplies of fresh water nor our environment.”
From the rich smell of greenery to the light filtering between the garden racks, The Growroom is an exotic assault on senses. The pod will provide an escape from the city life while providing fresh and healthy food. See some more images of The Growroom below:
Carla Cammilla Hjort, Director of Space10, is using a direct interaction approach to share the benefits of The Growroom with the common people. She said,
“We’re inviting [people] to step inside the growing green haven, smell and taste the abundance of herbs and plants, and hopefully it will spark passion about growing your own food in the future. At Space10, we envision a future where we grow much more food inside our cities. Food producing architecture could enable us to do so.”
Thomas Sandahl Christensen, the interaction designer, and Sebastian Dragelykke, Tradium, and Raaschougardeners, the gardeners, also worked on the design of The Growroom.
