Singapore Airlines is taking back to the skies after stopping their services for five years. The airline will offer the World’s longest non-stop flight which will travel from Singapore to New York. The 15000-km trip will take nearly 19 hours. This flight will break the previous record of Qatar Air’s 17.5-hour flight between Auckland and Doha. Qantas is also a player to set the ultra-long flight record with their 17 hours non stop flight from Perth to London. Despite it being a long time to be in a plane, passengers are still grabbing tickets. The flight will take off from Changi Airport to Newark’s International Airport in New Jersey.
Singapore Airlines told the press that the demand for the non-stop services had inspired them to create this route and they are not surprised that people are buying the tickets. The Airlines officials told BBC that the business class seats for the flight were all booked. However, if there is anyone who wants to join the flight, there are still some seats available in the economy class.
Singapore Airlines will offer two meals to the business class passengers and giving the passengers the option to eat when they can. There are also refreshments available during the flight and a bed to sleep in. If two meals are not enough for you during the flight, the premium economy tickets offer an additional dinner apart from the refreshments. The plane has space for 161 passengers. There are 67 business class seats and 94 premium economy seats. The airline expects a majority of its passengers to be business people who need the convenience of non-stop flights.
Geoffrey Thomas, an Aviation expert, told BBC, “This is a route between two massive financial hubs, and so they will fill this plane up with business people, or well-heeled travelers who want the convenience of a non-stop flight. It’s also been proven that when carriers introduce a new non-stop route, the traffic on that route increases threefold.” The latest predictions from Singapore Airlines estimate that exact flight time will be 18 hours and 25 minutes. During that time officials at Airbus will be monitoring the ultra-long-range plane. The ULR series is intended to replace Boeing’s 777 series, and it also consumes less fuel than the 777s.
