Samsung’s Cute Ball-butler Robot Rejuvenates At CES 2025 With New Powers

Samsung’s charming robotic ball-butler, “Ballie,” is once again stealing the show at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2025). First revealed at CES 2020, Ballie has consistently evolved with each appearance, showcasing new features and an expanded vision for intelligent domestic assistance. This year, Samsung announced that Ballie is finally set to hit the market in 2025.

Clad in a bright yellow exterior and gliding effortlessly on streamlined wheels, Ballie (pronounced “Ball-E”) is no stranger to tech enthusiasts. Since its debut, this adorable domestic helper has been marketed as a companion to help users “intelligently navigate their lives.” Over the years, Samsung has equipped Ballie with cutting-edge technologies to assist with tasks like managing phone calls, monitoring pets, and providing entertainment.

Returning to CES 2025, Ballie impresses once more with its seamless integration into smart homes. Samsung claims the robot connects effortlessly with IoT-capable devices, learning user habits to deliver personalized and intelligent services.

Ballie’s latest iteration comes packed with a host of impressive upgrades. It boasts front and rear cameras with 4K and 2K resolution, respectively, along with built-in projectors. These projectors not only enhance entertainment but also allow users to project calls, images, and even movies onto walls or other surfaces.

Samsung has spared no expense in maintaining quality. The robot includes a Full HD triple-laser projector, reportedly delivering a performance comparable to the high-end Premiere 5 projector. Additionally, Ballie now supports more conversational interactions and is voice-activated using cues like “Hey Ballie.” With its far-field microphones, the robot can serve as a virtual assistant, offering directions, to-do lists, or even personalized recommendations.

“Ballie is about blending technology with everyday life in an intuitive, meaningful way,” said Lydia Cho, Samsung’s Head of Product for Home Entertainment, during an interview with TechRadar.

Thanks to advanced LiDAR and Time of Flight (ToF) sensors, Ballie can navigate most homes with ease. This ensures smooth mobility, even in complex environments. Moreover, the robot will ship with multilingual support, including English, Spanish, and Korean, making it accessible to a global audience.

Despite the excitement, Samsung has not yet revealed specific launch details. For now, early 2025 seems to be the anticipated release window. When questioned about the prolonged development, Lydia Cho explained, “We ranted to perfect this, making sure it came to market at the right time, with the right features and concept.”
