Porsche Taycan Becomes The World’s Fastest EV After Beating Tesla Model 3 At US Cross County

Porsche Taycan Beats Tesla Model 3 as Fastest EV at US Cross Country

When you think of electric cars, the first company that comes to mind is Tesla. No doubt, for quite some time, Tesla seemed to have the most prolific electric vehicles around, complemented by an outstanding supercharger network.

A Tesla Model 3 topped the last Cannonball Run, an illegal speedy road trip/race that sees drivers try to take from New York to Los Angeles in the minimum time possible. The run, first covered by The Drive, is outdated and in bad taste as it was perceived to be a protest against speed limits necessary for road safety.

But it is a useful way to gauge the performance of electric vehicles. At first, it was thought to be impossible to dethrone the Tesla Model 3 as the vehicle had a nation-wide capable Supercharger network and a longer range between charges.

However, on December 31, 2020, a Porsche Taycan 4S beat the Cannonball Run’s previous record by 51 minutes. This is not so astounding if you think about how fast a Porsche is, but mind-boggling to think about what charging networks the Porsche’s drivers used to their advantage.

The answer, simple, Electrify America’s network, which Porsche claims can add up to 62 miles (100 km) of range in merely five minutes by charging up to 350 kW to the car. If you have any doubt, this really happened, then check out the video attached below from Out of Spec Motoring.

It should be borne in mind that the ride saw three people in the car who drove turn wise and that the car was equipped with the smallest and lightest possible wheels to attain max speed.

A full road trip report will be available soon, and we know we will be anxiously waiting for it. After all, what’s more, exciting than seeing an electric vehicle tackling the extreme challenge of crossing an entire country in just 48 hours?
