The OliLight is dust and water resistant with LEDs embedded inside a UV-resistant polyurethane casing pumping out a maximum of 1,200 lumens. It has a quick release buckle on the front. The power button, brightness controls and a button to activate the emergency beacon are also located here.
There is an array of sensors built into the belt and they can also trigger the SOS mode automatically. These sensors include a 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope in addition to a Bluetooth 4.0 module. According to the creators, this can automatically detect when the wearer is in trouble and send out the distress signal.
Let’s say you are hiking and trip on a rock in the dark. The belt will be able to pick up the fall and begin a 15-second long sound alert. You have 15 seconds to turn off the alert. If you don’t do that then it is passed on to the smartphone where an SOS message is sent to a predefined number using your phone’s GPS. The belt will also start flashing a Morse code distress signal so the rescuers can easily spot you in the dark.
Some features like the colours of the lights and light flashing modes can be customized using the smartphone app. The belt is charged via USB and provides 100 hours of illumination on a single charge. The OliLight is currently a Kickstarter campaign and pledging $139 will have one heading your way in October of this year if things proceed as planned.
