Nvidia Is Planning To Launch A ‘Personal AI Supercomputer’

Nvidia’s Project Digits Is A ‘Personal AI Supercomputer’

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Nvidia introduced Project Digits, a “personal AI supercomputer” that brings the company’s cutting-edge Grace Blackwell hardware platform to a compact and accessible format.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described it as a versatile tool, saying, “[Project Digits] runs the entire Nvidia AI stack — all of Nvidia software runs on this. It’s a cloud computing platform that sits on your desk … It’s even a workstation if you like it to be.”

Project Digits is tailored for AI researchers, data scientists, and students who need high-performance computing in a portable package. At its core is Nvidia’s new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, which delivers up to a petaflop of computing power, enabling users to prototype, fine-tune, and run AI models with remarkable efficiency. Nvidia claims the unit can handle models with up to 200 billion parameters, a metric indicating a model’s complexity and problem-solving ability. For more demanding tasks, two Project Digits machines can be linked to support models with up to 405 billion parameters.

The GB10, developed in collaboration with MediaTek, combines an Nvidia Blackwell GPU with a 20-core Nvidia Grace CPU. This powerhouse is paired with 128GB of memory and up to 4TB of flash storage, all housed within the compact Project Digits enclosure. While the unit can operate as a standalone device, it also connects seamlessly with Windows or Mac PCs, offering flexibility for diverse workflows.

“With Project Digits, the Grace Blackwell Superchip comes to millions of developers. Placing an AI supercomputer on the desks of every data scientist, AI researcher, and student empowers them to engage and shape the age of AI,” Huang emphasized.

Despite its capabilities, Project Digits comes with a steep price tag. Starting at $3,000, it will be available in May through Nvidia’s “top partners.”

While the cost may limit its accessibility to a niche audience, Nvidia is confident in its appeal to those who require powerful computing for AI advancements.
