Elon Musk was feeling super-confident at The Tesla Autonomy Investor Day and claimed that buying any other car other than Tesla will be like owning a horse. He said, ‘The fundamental message that consumers should be taking today is that it’s financially insane to buy anything other than a Tesla. It would be like owning a horse in three years. I mean, fine if you want to own a horse. But you should go into it with that expectation.’

The investors’ event took place yesterday in Palo Alto, California. That is where Elon Musk confidently told the audience that purchasing a car without the hardware that is necessary for a completely autonomous drive will turn out to be a regretful mistake. He said, ‘If you buy a car that does not have the hardware for full self-driving, it is like buying a horse. And the only car that has the hardware for full self-driving is a Tesla.’

This is not the first time that Musk has made use of the horse analogy for comparing Tesla to other car brands. He used the same analogy last year when he made an appearance on Josh Rogan podcast. He said that having Tesla and regular cars on the road were similar to the time when horses and cars were sharing highways.

We all know that Musk likes to make big claims and that his timing of those claims sucks big time. In fact, he has even admitted that timing is not his strong point. He said, ‘sometimes I am not on time, but I get it done.’ The presentation given by the energetic CEO at the Autonomy Day was about outlining a blueprint for the company to transform its cars into completely self-driving cars.

Musk has also claimed that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system will have all of its features completed before this year ends. He went on to claim that the system will be good enough to enable users not to pay attention while using it by the second quarter of next year, 2020. He also stated that he is confident that Tesla will be able to obtain regulatory approval from the US government by the end of next year.

The current production-lines of Tesla feature the hardware required for allowing the cars to become fully self-driving machines. Whereas, the older models can get them installed without any kind of fuss. Tesla makes use of a network of cameras along with a forward-facing radar and ultrasonic sensors. Elon is hoping that the technology will come together and allow Tesla to have over a million robo-taxis on the road next year!
