With its latest face recognition technology to unlock the device, OLED screen, and a glass back, you might be hoping that the $999 iPhone X would be less fragile than its predecessors and might hold up to the casual tumble of daily use. That’s where you are wrong pal!
Despite its stunning features, iPhone X is easily breakable as revealed by some of the initial tests.
However, this is not the only bad news for iPhone lovers. With Apple charging $279 for front screen replacement and $549 for any other damage recoveries, you might have to sell a lot more than just your kidney to afford to keep and maintain the phone.
Conducted by SquareTrade, these breakability tests have shown that the phone promptly breaks when falls from a height of 6 feet. SquareTrade Labs use robots to conduct these tests to see how the devices resist dropping and tumbling from everyday use. As per the tests, the phone’s screen immediately breaks and the face recognition does not work anymore after a fall from six feet. The drop tests also resulted in a completely shattered back panel with the loose shards of glass making it difficult to hold the phone.
The iPhone X can also withstand 30 minutes under five feet of water resulting in some audio muffling, as indicated by the water dunk test.
Both the Face ID and home swipe function of the phone also failed after its exposure to 60-second tumble test.
”You’d expect there to be a high price to pay for a beautiful phone like the iPhone X,”said the vice president global creative director at SquareTrade, Jason Siciliano.
”Unfortunately for consumers, in the end, it’s likely to be more than the $1,000 they’ve already invested.”
‘Despite Apple’s claims that their glass is the most durable ever on a smartphone, the iPhone X is the most breakable iPhone we’ve ever tested.”
