Meta Has Built An AI Supercomputer – And It Will Be World’s Fastest By The End Of 2022

Meta Has Built An AI Supercomputer, Says It Will Be World’s Fastest By 2022

Meta, the internet sensation, said on Monday that its research team has developed a new AI supercomputer that it expects to be the fastest in the world when it is completed in mid-2022.

Meta announced in a blog post that its new AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) would help the company create better AI models that can learn from billions of samples, work across hundreds of languages, and scan text, images, and video to determine whether the information is harmful.

“This research will not only help keep people safe on our services today but also in the future, as we build for the metaverse,” the company said in a blog post.

Facebook changed its name to Meta in October to reflect its focus on the metaverse, which it believes will be the mobile internet’s future.

The metaverse, a phrase that has sparked a lot of buzz in Silicon Valley, refers to shared virtual worlds that people can access via various devices and use to work, play, and connect.

“The experiences we’re building for the metaverse require enormous compute power (quintillions of operations/second) and RSC will enable new AI models that can learn from trillions of examples, understand hundreds of languages, and more,” Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

According to Meta, the RSC is presently among the fastest AI supercomputers in operation. A Meta representative stated that the supercomputer was built with Nividia Corp, Pure Storage Inc, and Penguin Computing Inc teams.
