LG’s 88-inch 8K OLED TV Is Now Available For Purchase

Model 88Z9 was spotted for the first time back in January 2018. We were able to get a closer look at it in August at IFA. It was launched in South Korea back in June 2019. For those of you who are not aware, Model 88Z9 is the LG’s 88-inch 8K OLED TV!

LG had promised that a roll-out in Europe and North America would soon follow up in Q3 and now that time is here. The devil is in the detail, and the company promises that its huge television will exceed the picture quality criteria of the Information Display Measurements Standard for producing ‘real 8K’.

According to this Standard, a stated resolution carries more importance as opposed to the pixel counts and states that the neighboring pixels should be distinguishable from one another. This is known as the Contrast Modulation measurement and is a must for making the grade. The CM value has to be more than 25 percent for images and 50 percent for text. LG’s Signature OLED 8K television, Model 88Z9, has CM values ‘in the 90 percent range,’ as per LG. LG further says that these values imply that the user will be able to ‘actually experience all of the additional detail in the 8K content.’

Brian Kwon from LG said, ‘The new 8K TVs show that LG is deeply committed to providing consumers with real 8K as defined by established display industry standards. LG 8K OLED and NanoCell TVs aren’t just TVs with more pixels; they also deliver all of our latest display technologies.’ Model 88Z9 features 33 million self-emitting pixels, an almost bezel-free design, and has an integrated 80 W speaker system. With its release in the global marketplace, it has joined the 75-inch 8K NanoCell TV that surpasses the CM values for delivering ‘real 8K’ experience as well. However, it utilizes the Nano Color for enhancing the color reproduction and filtering out impurities and Nano Black for controlling backlighting for enhanced contrast along with deep blacks.

Both models come with Cinema HDR and feature four HDMI 2.1 ports. They can also upscale lower-resolution content by making use of LG’s Alpha 9 Gen 2 8K intelligent processor that relies on deep learning for tapping into a huge source database for carrying out sound and picture optimization. The Signature OLED 8K – Model 88Z9 – and 8K NanoCell models are being made available this very month to over 140 markets in the world including Australia, the UK, the US, France, and Germany.
