Instagram has rolled out a long-requested feature that gives users more control over how their profiles appear, allowing them to manually rearrange posts on their profile grid for the first time.
The new “Grid Reordering” feature lets users drag and drop posts into any position on their profile, removing the long-standing requirement that content appear strictly in the order it was published. The update is designed to give creators, businesses, and everyday users greater flexibility in curating their profiles and highlighting the content that matters most.
Until now, Instagram users could only influence the appearance of their profile through the platform’s pinning feature, which allows up to three posts to remain fixed at the top of a feed. The new system goes much further by enabling complete customization of a profile’s visual layout.
To use the feature, users can open their profile, press and hold a post, select “Reorder Grid,” and then drag posts into their preferred positions. Changes are saved immediately and are visible to anyone visiting the profile. The feature is currently available on Instagram’s mobile app.
The update is part of a broader push by Instagram owner Meta to provide creators with more tools for self-expression and audience engagement. Alongside grid reordering, Instagram is expanding Spotify integration in Notes and introducing new handwritten-style fonts for Reels and Stories based on the actual handwriting of content creators.
The announcement has been met with widespread enthusiasm from users, many of whom have requested profile customization tools for years. Social media reactions suggest many see the feature as overdue, particularly given Instagram’s increasing focus on creators, brands, and visual storytelling.
The rollout also highlights how Instagram continues to evolve beyond its original chronological photo-sharing roots. Since shifting to an algorithm-driven feed in 2016, the platform has steadily introduced tools aimed at optimizing content discovery and creator growth. While some users continue to call for a return to chronological feeds, grid reordering offers a new way to control how visitors experience a profile at first glance.
For businesses and influencers, the feature could have meaningful marketing benefits. Brands can now showcase products, campaigns, and key announcements in a carefully designed layout without needing to publish content in a specific sequence, making Instagram profiles function more like customizable digital storefronts.
